Avid Behaving Badly #1: Audio Waveforms

If you're like me, then you spend a large portion of your time wishing you could chuck your Avid out the window, and then realizing that your office doesn't have any windows.  So you create multigroups instead.

One thing that my company uses is Iso Audio - isolated mics saved as separate .wav files with no accompanying video, raw and unmixed, so that editors always have access to the best audio regardless of how terrible the on-set audio mixer is that day.  We put this iso audio on Audio Track 24 in our timelines because there's no related video and this seems to make sense from an organizational standpoint.  And it should, right?  I mean - this should work just fine.

Except that Avid doesn't draw audio waveforms for audio track 24.  I have no fucking clue why, since audio tracks 1 through 23 draw waveform just goddamned fine, but track 24 doesn't draw in.

Fuck you, Avid.

    Did you ever find a solution to this? I'm here 5 years later in Avid 8.2, and still no fucking waveform on audio track 24.

    As far as I know there's not a fix for it. You can try the basics for resetting PRAM, deleting site settings, etc., but in my experience it's all sort of hit and miss with this particular issue. Sorry :(

File 'Avid_MediaFiles' not found.

This is a great error.  It's great for a couple of reasons.  Firstly, the problem isn't that "Avid_MediaFiles' can't be found.  That's the folder on your media drive named "Avid Media Files" and it's pretty goddamn easily found by both you and Avid.  No, the real problem is that a file *inside* Avid Media Files can't be found.  Which file?  Good question.  A database file.  What this error message should really say is: File 'msmFMID.pmr' not found. OR File 'msmMMOB.mdb' not found. Or the error message could be actually helpful and say: The File 'msmFMID.pmr' which should be in path 'MediaDriveA/Avid Media Files/MXF/Ingest1' cannot be found. You know, something actually fucking helpful.  But no.  No, this message basically just says that Avid lost something, it isn't sure what, and it sure as shit isn't going to let you save any bins until you fix the problem.  Also, opening the Med
